Sit in as quiet of a space as you can find. Set a timer for one minute.

Count your thoughts. Each time a thought pops up, count it as one. Numbering of thoughts doesn’t count as a thought.

See how many thoughts occur to you in one minute.

The highest number I’ve encountered is 43.


Thoughts are no more controllable than manufacturing white blood cells or perspiring.
